Three trapped mine workers at Lily Mine could still be alive

JOHANNESBURG, February 8 (ANA) – Management at Lily Gold Mine on Monday said the rescue team has established “audio communication” raising hope that the three trapped miners were still alive.

In a news bulletin on 702 Talk Radio, mine management said rescuers had heard “audible” sounds on Sunday that indicated the miners, who have been trapped under the ground since Friday were alive.

It was reported on Friday that the main crown pillar collapsed into the underground open stopes, trapping almost 100 miners at the mine owned by Vantage Goldfields Limited at the start of the morning shift.

By lunchtime on Friday, all of the 87 miners who had been working underground at the mine when the collapse occurred near the entrance had been safely brought to the surface.

However, three mine workers were reported missing. Rescue efforts began on Friday
