Three children have died after they suffocated to death inside a parked vehicle.
The tragedy happened in a village in Bolobedu outside Tzaneen in the Limpopo province on Wednesday.
Spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says at about 2 pm, they were called by the local clinic when three unconscious children were brought in by their parents.
He says two girls aged two and six were declared dead upon arrival at the clinic while a three-year-old boy died the following day.
Colonel Ledwaba says it is alleged that the children were playing before climbing into a parked Sedan with the windows closed.
He says they were discovered by another young relative who alerted the elders.
Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
