Port Elizabeth police arrested three suspects following a high speed chase by members of the Mount Road Operational Command Centre and the police in Bethelsdorp in the city's northern areas.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Pricilla Naidu said members from the Visible Gang Intervention Team were patrolling in the Bethelsdorp area on Saturday night, when they responded to gunshots being fired in Arcadia.
She said they were informed by members of the public that people in a white VW Polo were allegedly involved in the shooting.
Naidu said the vehicle was spotted in Rensburg Street, after which a high speed chased ensued between the police and the vehicle.
Several shots were exchanged between the suspects and the police.
Naidu said Bethelsdorp police later stopped the vehicle in Salt Lake, where the three occupants were arrested.
Police seized a revolver, a pistol and ammunition was seized.
No-one was injured during the incident.
The suspects are being detained on charges including attempted murder, and the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, and will appear in court soon.
