A man and two women were arrested on charges of business robbery and possession of suspected stolen properties in Klerksdorp after cell phones valued at R500,000 were stolen during a robbery at a shopping mall, North West police said on Thursday.
Lieutenant Colonel Pelonomi Makau said the three were arrested on Monday, after a shop was robbed cell phones to an estimated value of R500,000 on Sunday, at the Klerksdorp mall.
She said following an intensive investigation by the police, in cooperation with the staff of the affected shop, a Trio Task Team went to a house in Alabama near Klerksdorp on Monday.
“The police found and confiscated three boxes containing the alleged stolen cell phones. A man who alleged that he bought the cell phones from two men, was arrested,” she said.
“Further investigation led the police to a liquor outlet in Klerksdorp Central Business District, where several laptops were found hidden. One of the recovered laptop was linked with a theft case in Bothaville in the Free State province. Subsequently, two women were arrested.”
