More than two thousand people visited Maropeng, north west of Johannesburg, on the first weekend that the historic Homo Naledi fossils went on display to the public.
The discovery, which was unveiled last week, has been featured in the media around the world.
The Rising Star expedition's intriguing findings are also the subject of global debate.
The Homo naledi fossils were found in 2013 in a cave in South Africa's Cradle of Humankind and have been identified as an entirely new species of early human ancestor who disposed of their dead in a designated burial ground.
Scientists believe that behaviour alone was unique to the earliest species of human kind.
The exhibition at Maropeng runs until the 11th of October.
