Thirty students arrested outside Parliament

The son of University of Cape Town’s Vice Chancellor, Max Price, was among the 30 students arrested when the #Feesmustfall protest outside Parliament turned violent on Wednesday.

News24 reports that UCT spokesperson, Pat Lucas, confirmed that Ilan Price was arrested with 29 other protesting students.

Another student from a well-known family, ANC stalwart Frank Chikana's son, Kgotsi, was also arrested.

National police spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo says those arrested will be facing charges of trespassing and public violence.

As the students were being processed at the Cape Town Central Police Station late in the evening, another group of students gathered at the Western Cape High Court to file an urgent interdict against the police.

Student representatives from the Legal Resource Centre were seeking an interdict preventing the police from what they called, using force to disperse assembled and gathered peacefully and unarmed students.

The matter has since been postponed to Thursday.
