Western Cape Premier, Alan Winde, has expressed his condolences to the families of the 13 people who died in a horror bus accident on the N1 at the Hex River Pass on Saturday night.
In a statement, the provincial government said the accident happened near De Doorns at around 6 PM.
“There were also multiple injuries, including seven patients who were hospitalised in critical condition. Our thoughts are with them,” the WC government said.
Mobility Minister, Ricardo McKenzie, preliminary reports indicate that the driver of the bus lost control, and collided with a truck before crashing into the rock wall of the pass.
“The bus was travelling towards Cape Town carrying 60 passengers,” he said.
He appealed to motorists to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy as authorities gear up for Easter.
Premier Alan Winde also echoed the Minister’s appeal.
“My thoughts are with the victims of this terrible tragedy,” he said.
