The third wave of Covid-19 has seen an increase in infections amongst younger people.
This is according to Dr Gerrit de Villiers, Chief Clinical Officer for Mediclinic Southern Africa, who says younger people do not necessarily feel sick immediately, spreading the virus before they later realise that they are positive and isolate.
He says the Free State, North West and Northern Cape provinces are severely affected.
De Villiers says young people are often more resilient and don't end up in hospital but the same cannot be said for older people who get infected.
According to the latest statistics on the Covid-19 dashboard from the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD), the 31-40 year age group has the highest numbers.
