The statue of Louis Botha outside the gates of Parliament was smeared with red and blue paint on Wednesday night.
The words "Louis Botha Farmer Warrior Statesman" on the base of the statue were covered in red paint, while darker paint was splashed on the statue of Botha on his horse.
Botha fought during the South African War and later became prime minister of the Union of South Africa. He established the South African Party with Jan Smuts.
Meanwhile, the Higher Education Transformation Network has welcomed the University of Cape Town Council's decision to remove the statue of British colonialist, Cecil John Rhodes from its premises.
The network's Executive Director, Reginald Legoabe says the decision to remove the statue is one of the greatest milestone achievements in the history of UCT.
He says council members did not act out of the goodness of their hearts, but were forced to come to their senses after severe pressure from the student community and various progressive organizations.
