The chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Thandi Modise, could face prosecution in terms of the Animals Protection Act.
This, after the National Council of SPCA's confirmed that criminal charges will be laid against the owner of the farm near Modderfontein in North West.
In its latest statement on the saga today, the NSPCA said goats, sheep, chicken and geese, were removed from Modise's farm on Monday and Tuesday.
It says only cattle remain on the farm and as they are free-roaming animals, are able to forage for food.
NSPCA manager for animal protection, Andries Venter, says that a condition for the cattle remaining on the farm is that appropriate food be immediately provided for them.
He says they've spent four days on Modise's farm where an absent farm interim manager had been effectively blamed for the neglect of the animals.
"The NSPCA is busy compiling a docket after we have now resolved the conditions of the animals and removed most of the animals off the property that needed to be removed, interms of a warrant we obtained on Saturday. The evidence will be provided to saps for charges to be brought against the owner of the animals." says Venter.
According to a weekend report, the pigs on Modise's farm had started cannabalising dozens of other dead pigs while sheep, geese, goats and ducks had also died on the property near Modderfontein in North West province.
Modise said she was saddened by the situation and will cooperate fully with any investigation.
