The SA National Defence Union says the content of text messages, which allegedly implicate President Jacob Zuma in the Guptagate scandal, cannot be revealed.
The union's national secretary Pikkie Greeff says this could affect the civil claim that Lieutenant-Colonel Christine Anderson is planning to institute against the state.
On Tuesday charges of fraud and corruption against Anderson and colleague Lieutenant-Colonel Stefan van Zyl were withdrawn.
Beeld reported on Wednesday that Anderson would bring a civil claim for defamation against the defence force after then Minister of Justice Jeff Radebe publicly accused her and Van Zyl of colluding in wrongdoing.
Anderson reportedly has evidence of conversations between the former chief of state protocol Bruce Koloane and Zuma, at the time the Gupta plane landed at the airforce base.
Koloane has since been appointed South Africa's ambassador to the Netherlands.
