Deputy president, Cyril Ramaphosa, who brokered a peace deal in Lesotho, has been sent back there following the latest outbreak of political violence.
President Jacob Zuma, as head of the SADEC Organ on Politics, dispatched Ramaphosa to the Mountain Kingdom, following a report by a ministerial fact finding mission.
Tensions are running high again in Lesotho following last week's killing of the former Commander of the Lesotho Defence Force, Brigadier Maaparankoe Mahoa, and the flight of three opposition leaders from the country.
Zuma said the killing of Brigadier Mahoa threatens to undermine Lesotho's efforts towards a peaceful transition following the elections in February.
President Zuma has reaffirmed the continued commitment of SADC to support the government and people of Lesotho to consolidate peace, security and stability in the country.
Deputy President Ramaphosa is expected to return to South Africa on Wednesday 01 July 2015.
