Ten people were killed and two seriously injured in a collision in Mpumalanga on Monday morning, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) said.
“The accident happened when a Toyota Avanza and a light delivery vehicle collided head-on on the R23 between Standerton and Balfour,” RTMC spokesman Simon Zwane said.
“Accident reconstruction experts are currently on the scene trying to determine the exact cause of the accident.”
Zwane said the RTMC and police will be working together to investigate the fatal crash.
“Statistics indicate that South Africa experiences a high number of road fatalities on pay day weekends and over the long weekends,” he said.
“Five other people died this past weekend when a vehicle they were travelling in overturned in Limpopo province.”
