Telkom is to offer voluntary severance and early retirement packages to thousands of its employees.

The parastatal said on Tuesday that the move is aimed at enabling Telkom to achieve its business objectives of securing sustainability by balancing its workforce in line with its strategies.

Telkom has a workforce of around 21 000 employees.

It says the decision to apply for a package was at the sole discretion of every employee but it adds that a retrenchment process will follow if the desired result is not achieved.
