A taxi driver from Mpumalanga is expected to apply for bail in the Amersfoort Magistrates court on Monday following his arrest on a charge of culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving.
The 31-year-old taxi driver has been in custody since Tuesday when he allegedly ignored a stop sign and bumped two people leaving an infant dead.
It is alleged that the driver ignored a stop sign as he was chasing after another taxi from Ermelo which was ferrying passengers.
As a result of the chase, he hit two pedestrians, a 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman who was carrying a baby.
The infant was declared dead on the scene while the passengers were taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
