Gauteng police said a tavern owner in the Orange Farm area shot and killed seven people on Saturday night, including children, before later turning the gun on himself.
Brigadier Brenda Muridili said the shooting spree occurred after the tavern owner had an argument with a person who went to buy alcohol but found the tavern closed.
She said the tavern owner followed the man back to his house where family members were celebrating after lobola negotiations and opened fire.
“He shot and killed seven people including a three-year-old boy. Four people survived the shooting, “ Muridili said.
She said two of them, a 31-year-old and a one-year-old boy were taken to hospital with injuries, while a 24-year-old woman and a four-year-old did not have any injuries.
“The suspect then drove back home to Evaton where he allegedly shot himself. He was rushed to hospital but he died on arrival,” she said.
