Kwazulu Natal police have established a Task Team to investigate the murder of newly appointed Richmond Municipal Manager, Edward Sithole.
He was gunned down in broad daylight outside his offices on Monday just days before he was due to start in his new job.
KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa, said they would not rest until the killers were brought to book.
He said Sithole was shot dead by two men who fled the scene in a getaway car.
General Langa said the motive for his murder is not yet known.
The Democratic Alliance’s Sizwe Mchunu posted on his Facebook page said that Sithole had been due to start on 13 March.
National Freedom Party spokesman, Sabelo Sigudu, said: “The National Freedom Party (NFP) wishes to express words of condolence on the sad shooting and killing of Mr Sithole, the Municipality Manager of Richmond Local Municipality, which took place this morning.”
He described the shooting as “evil”.
