The Western Cape Department of Economic Development says its awaiting a response from Transnet for a formal engagement to explore a multi-party partnership agreement that will determine the future of the Outeniqua Choo Choo.
Addressing the Cape Town Press Club yesterday, Minister, Allan Windy, said Transnet had recently requested a business case from the Western Cape Government which will inform a decision on whether it can transfer the Outeniqua Choo Tjoe rolling stock to a successful operator.
He said the estimated cost implications are still to be finalized.
Minister Windy says is Department is in discussions with the Industrial Development Corporation and the National Department of Tourism to seek a multiple-party partnership agreement with Transnet and Local Government.
He says he's still awaiting a response from the state owned entity.
