Two men appeared in court in Tshwane on Monday in connection with the murder of a Pretoria University student in Hatfield in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, says the two, aged 33 and 38, were arrested later that day by members of the Brooklyn SAPS.
He said they were charged with murder, armed robbery, and the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The charges are a sequel to the brazen murder of 23-year-old Thapelo Menwe, who was shot during an armed robbery at approximately 02h00. The incident was captured on CCTV.
Masondo said the police were informed of the incident and responded swiftly.
"During routine patrols, the police noticed the car that matched the description of the getaway vehicle and stopped it. Two occupants were searched and found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and the deceased personal belongings," he said.
