Two suspects will appear in the Wepener Magistrate’s Court this week for the double murder of a farming couple.
Police spokesperson, SergeantMosili Ntsika, said that the men were arrested in Weppener on Saturday for the murder of a 78-year-old farmer and his 68-year-old wife on their farmVanstadensrus in the Wepener area last Monday.
He said they face charges of murder, housebreaking and theft, theft of motor vehicle and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Ntsila said police also recovered the couple’s stolen vehicle which was found abandoned at the Wepenersports grounds on Tuesday.
“The two males, aged 26 and 20, were arrested on Saturday morning in Kanana Location, Wepener, and Gaba Square, Vanstadensrus. Six firearms and other suspected stolen items were recovered from a house in Wepener,” he said.
Free State police commissioner, Lieutenant-General, Moeketsi Sempe, commended the investigating team for the arrests.
