Police in the Northern Cape have arrested three suspects in Kuruman for being in possession of stolen gemstones valued at approximately R2 million.
A spokesperson for police Nomthandazo Mnisi says the precious stones were stolen during a burglary that took place in the small town of Kleinsee in March this year.
The 1 205 stones were stolen from a dealer in town.
The suspects, aged between 26 and 39, were arrested in a joint operation with the Hawks, Kuruman Stock theft Unit and Public Order police.
The trio is expected to appear in the Kuruman Magistrates on Monday and will be charged with the illegal possession of stolen property and for being in contravention of the Prescious Stones Act.
