SANParks rangers have arrested four suspected poachers during an operation in Table Mountain National Park.
Spokesperson, JP Louw, said the marine unit rangers in Table Mountain National Park became suspicious about a vehicle they spotted during their routine patrol on Friday.
“The rangers called for backup and after ordering the vehicle to a halt, conducted a search.
“Upon inspection, a substantial quantity of abalone was found in the vehicle. The team seized 94 whole-state abalones, two Alikreukels, and diving equipment,” Louw said.
He said the suspects were taken to the South African Police Services station in Simons Town where a case of poaching had been opened.
They are due to appear in court soon.
