Gauteng police said they rescued two kidnapped businessmen and arrested seven suspects in separate incidents this past week.

Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk said a Chinese businessman was kidnapped in Springs on Saturday.

She said within 24 hours, a multi-disciplinary team, acting on intelligence, established the location of the kidnappers.

Van Wyk said the team intercepted their vehicle at an intersection in Lenasia in Johannesburg on Sunday and arrested two suspects.

“The team then proceeded to an address in Meriting where they arrested one more kidnapper and rescued the businessman,” she said.

Van Wyk said in an unrelated incident on 1 December 2024 another businessman was hijacked and kidnapped by a group of suspects in Wierdabrug.

She said the multi-disciplinary team received “intelligence” which led them to recover the kidnappers' vehicle, a Jeep, which was left abandoned in a garage in Nellmapius, Tshwane.

“The team followed up on a lead which led them to an address in Mamelodi where they arrested four suspects and rescued two kidnapped victims.

Van Wyk says firearms, cell phones and two vehicles were seized as part of the ongoing investigation into these cases.
