A suspect was shot dead on Tuesday following a double-truck hijacking in Midrand, Gauteng.
The two trucks carrying thousands of cellphones were hijacked by unknown armed suspects travelling in three vehicles.
Police responded swiftly and traced the first truck to President Park where the suspects were busy off-loading the cargo.
When police arrived the suspects fled the scene abandoning their vehicle.
Police then intercepted the second vehicle where a shootout ensued.
Police fatally shot one suspect, injured another and arrested a third.
No police members were injured.
The suspects will be charged with attempted murder, possession of stolen property, and possession of hijacked trucks.
More charges may be added with the possibility of more arrests.
