George police have arrested a suspect in connection with the rape and murder of five-year-old Natalie Baartman.
Police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie, said “at this stage police can positively link the suspect” to the crime.
The little girl’s body was found three days ago just 80 metres from her Pacaltsdorp home,
Police said an autopsy indicated that the child had been raped and strangled. She also had an open head injury.
Natalie was last seen alive by her parents on Saturday evening.
Pojie said she was only reported missing on Monday.
He said her body was discovered by a policeman about ten minutes after a team began the search for the girl.
Pojie said a 31-year-old man, who is known by Natalie and her parents, was arrested.
He will appear in the George Magistrates Court on Monday.
