More than 93 percent of respondents of a recent coronavirus survey were very concerned, or extremely concerned, about the possible economic collapse of the country due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Statistics South Africa released the results of the survey on Saturday, which was conducted from April 13 to 26 April.
It says 79.7 percent were concerned about the civil disorder that may result as a consequence of the virus.
The report further showed that 99 percent of respondents adhered to the call not to go out to public meetings, while the practice of social distancing when going out was a priority for 98.4 percent.
According to the findings on self-reported employment, two-thirds (69.1 percent) of respondents had a full-time job (receiving a monthly salary); 11.6 percent of respondents were self-employed, while 8.1 percent were unemployed.
By far, most respondents (94.2 percent) were living in a formal dwelling, either a free-standing house, townhouse, or a cluster house (81.6 percent), or in a flat or apartment in a block of flats (12.6 percent.
Less than one percent lived in an informal dwelling.
