Some of South Africa’s biggest and most recognized stores are being investigated for allegedly hiking their garlic and ginger prices.
The National Consumer Commission says their probe follows the outcry by consumers that these prices have seen excessive increases.
Ginger is seen as a natural remedy to keep healthy against Coronavirus.
The Spar Group, Pick ‘n Pay and Woolworths are among those being investigated.
The National Consumer Commission says its investigating seven major suppliers of garlic and ginger.
The Commission says its also investigating Food Lovers Market, Shoprite Group, Boxer Superstores and Cambridge Foods.
It adds that its investigation is not limited to these suppliers.
The commission is urging consumers throughout the country to monitor the market and where they suspect excessive price increase, they must file complaints with the Commission.
