Student Constable Sipho Mbatha, accused of shooting dead Soweto teenager Thato Mokoka, has been found guilty of murder in the Johannesburg High Court.
Forty-year-old Mbatha shot 16-year-old Mokoka during a raid on his grandmother's home in Bramfischerville, Soweto, in February.
Police went to the house after Mokoka was accused of being part of a gang which had terrorised the community, and of owning a firearm.
Mokoka was shot when Mbatha bent down to search him while he lay face down on the ground.
Mbatha pleaded not guilty, claiming that his R-5 rifle, which was set on automatic, went off accidentally.
