Police in the Free State have made a breakthrough in a murder they described as cruel and disturbing.
The 21-year-old Naledi Lethoba's body was found in an open field last week in Dagbreek, Welkom.
Police Spokesperson Stephen Thakeng says her body was partially burnt, her breasts cut off and a knife was still stuck in her neck.
Lethoba, who is from Bothaville, was a student at Goldfields TVET College.
Her body was identified by her parents on Friday.
Police launched an immediate manhunt and their investigations led them to a 19-year-old fellow student.
He is expected to appear in the Welkom Magistrates Court on Thursday.
The motive for the murder is unknown at this stage.
