Stilbaai in the Western Cape has been declared a local disaster area in the wake of veld fires that have been raging since Sunday.
The fire has since spread to the Riversdal and Albertinia vicinity and thousands of hectares as well as homes have burned down.
National Working on Fire spokesperson, Linton Rensburg said the fires were still burning but he said no one had been injured.
Rensburg said they currently have1 000 firefighters, 25 aircrafts and 70 vehicles deployed to assist in fighting multiple fires in the Western Cape.
Rensburg said it had been a very difficult time for teams on the ground and says they hope that weather conditions over the weekend will be favourable to combat the fires.
He said the full extent of the damaged caused by multiple fires must still be determined.
Fire Fighters from Eden District Municipality, as well as firefighters from Hessequa,Mossel Bay and George Municipalities are being supported by teams from Working on Fire and CapeNature in “working tirelessly to fight fires in order to protect communities, infrastructure and agricultural land.”
