The Energy Department has announced that the petrol price will increase by 93 cents a litre on Wednesday.
Those driving diesel powered vehicles will pay 69 cents more for both grades, while the wholesale price of illuminating paraffin will go up by 73 cents a litre.
Economist Dawie Roodt says the main reason for the big increase is due to the international price of oil.
He says the international oil price has gone up quite significantly in the past few weeks.
The weaker rand also contributed to the higher petrol price.
