A Free State Station Commander appeared in court for the alleged theft of money confiscated from a suspect who was arrested on drug charges.
Free State police spokesperson, Captain Loraine Earle, said Captain Pieter Rodgers, the Jacobsdal SAPS, appeared in court on Wednesday.
She said this related to the arrest of a man last February for dealing in dagga during which police seized the drugs and R2 460 in cash.
"The Station Commander was allegedly the last person to sign as the recipient of the money in the evidence register," Earle said.
She said when the man's case was finalised he went back to the Jacobdal SAPS to get his property, but the money was not found.
The case against 55-year-old Rodgers was postponed to 31 October and he was released on warning.
He will also face internal disciplinary action following a directive from the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Baile Motswenyane.
