A senior state prosecutor appeared in the Lichtenburg Magistrates Court in North West on Tuesday in connection with various sexual offences involving a minor.
The 45-year-old Marcus de Beer who is based at the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions in North West was charged with statutory rape, sexual exploitation of children, sexual display or causing display of pornography, sexual grooming of children and sexual assault.
A spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Henry Mamothame says the alleged offences were committed in 2019 when the victim was 15 years old.
De Beer was released on bail of R10 000 and must be back in court on the 17th of May.
Mamothame says de Beer was released on strict bail conditions and has since been suspended by the NPA.
