State of Disaster will remain in place till Covid is contained


The Presidency says South Africa's National State of Disaster will remain in place until Covid-19 is contained once and for all.

Minister in the Presidency, Jackson Mthembu announced this on Wednesday after Cabinet extended the period of emergency by another month to the 15th of November.

Mthembu said they don't want a new surge in the virus.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will announce a detailed economic recovery plan in parliament on Thursday.

South Africa has lost more than 18 151 to COVID-19 after 123 more people died on Wednesday.

Of the latest fatalities, 44 were in the Eastern Cape, 35 in Gauteng, 17 in KwaZulu Natal, 14 in the Free State, 8 in North West and 5 in the Western Cape.
