A man from Springs who is accused of abusing his wife and five children and holding them captive, was back in prison on Friday after he slit his wrists.
Police said the 36-year-old was discharged from hospital on Thursday, after he used a sharp object cut open his wrists in the holding cells of the Springs Magistrate's Court.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel, Lungelo Dlamini, says they're investigating how he came to be in possession of the object.
The man, who may not be named, was arrested late last month for allegedly assaulting his wife and five children and keeping them captive.
He faces charges of child abuse, rape, assault, and defeating the ends of justice.
