Three employees of a Spar supermarket chain store in Carolina in Mpumalanga appeared in court on Monday on charges of murder, kidnapping and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
This followed an incident in August when two men allegedly insulted a Spar employee.
The National Prosecuting Authority says the 29-year-old receiving manager Hannes Terblanche, the 32-year-old assistant manager William Viljoen and the 32-year-old security officer Obi Nortjie took the men to a storeroom where they were severely assaulted.
One of the men, Thulani Sibanyoni, later died of his injuries in hospital.
NPA spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa, says the accused abandoned their bail application and the matter has been postponed to the 16th of September for further investigation.
