South Africans can expect load shedding for another 2 years

Public Enterprises Minister, Lynn Brown says South Africans will have to  put up with load shedding for another two years.

Brown told parliament's public enterprises portfolio committee yesterday that load shedding is essential if a complete national black out is to be avoided.

Brown spoke frankly about the electricity crisis saying that she was worried and doing all she could to try and ensure that Eskom was stabilised financially and that the utility had a proper plan in place to ensure it was able to meet demand in future. But, she insisted that resolving systemic and managerial issues would not happen overnight. While this happens and while the country waits for more power to be added to the grid from renewable energy and from the two new power stations load shedding will be necessary.

Brown promised that everything would be done to limit its impact by keeping it to weekends.
