South African charity organisation, Gift of the Givers, has released two million rand to purchase emergency supplies for the thousands of victims of Typhoon Haiyan, which wreacked havoc across the Philippines.
The death toll is estimated to be anywhere between 10 and 20-thousand.
Haiyan, regarded as the greatest typhoon in human history, barrelled through the Philippines on Friday, packing sustained winds of up to 300 kilometres an hour and obliterating buildings and homes.
Gift of the Givers founder, Dr Imtiaaz Sooliman, says the provision of food, water, shelter, blankets and medical supplies is becoming a rapidly escalating emergency.
He says in some cases desperation has lead to looting in some districts.
