South Africans whose letters and parcels have been in limbo may now be lucky to get it before Christmas.
This was after the Business Rescue Practitioners (BRP) for the South African Post Office (SAPO) negotiated with partner airlines to resume international mail services to Japan, Europe and the USA.
Services had to be terminated after the Post Office did not pay their partner airlines.
BRP's Anoosh Rooplal and Mr Juanito Damons made a payment agreement for the money in arrears as well as an ongoing payment plan, with one airline handling these destinations.
According to a brief statement issued by BRP, the initial international shipments will assist in clearing up the backlog of mail and parcels to serve customers' requirements to post goods internationally.
Outgoing international Airmail services include Expedited Mail Service, Airmail parcels and Airmail Registers, which can be tracked via the SAPO website.
The BRPs are negotiating with other airlines to include additional international destinations.
Earlier this year, SAPO was saved from liquidation following a successful application to the high court, by the Minister of Communications.
