Sombre mood after shooting at SA primary school

JOHANNESBURG, September 27 (ANA) – There was a sombre mood on Wednesday morning at the Edalinceba Primary School, east of Johannesburg, where the deputy headmaster was gunned down on the premises on Tuesday.

The deputy headmaster, who has not been named yet, was hit by at least four bullets in the attack on Tuesday. After the shooting, teachers found him barely alive in a pool of blood. The schoolmaster died on the scene.

Visibly traumatised teachers, community members and Councillors of Duduza on Wednesday morning gathered at the school, where a prayer session was held for the murdered deputy head.

Reacting to the callous murder at the school on Tuesday evening, Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi said that he was angry that schools were turning out to be hunting environments for criminals. He, however, called for calm.

“It is alleged that three armed men visited the school, in disguise that they were attending to a call to fix electricity,” the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) said.

“The perpetrators were granted access to the school, and while in the admin block they shot at the deputy principal four times on the chest and he died.”

Lesufi also visited the family of the deceased.

GDE officials were at the school where they were providing counselling.
