Maseru (dpa) – Soldiers have shot dead the head of Lesotho’s military.
Khoantle Motsomotso was shot at his home by a group of soldiers who had recently been fired, spokesman Ramanka Mokaloba said on Tuesday.
One soldier was also killed during the attack and another injured.
Heavily armed forces were seen patrolling Maseru on Tuesday afternoon.
Local media reported that Prime Minister Thomas Thabane had left for South Africa – which surrounds tiny Lesotho – following the incident.
Lesotho, a constitutional monarchy, is one of the world’s poorest countries.
