The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has confirmed that it’s received a complaint from the Democratic Alliance regarding the recent social grant payment fiasco.

DA MP Bridget Masango said the complaint is against the minister of Social Development, Lindiwe Zulu, as well as the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) and Postbank for their part in the ongoing social grant payment debacle.

Thousands of beneficiaries were unable to withdraw their monies for September following a Postbank systems upgrade.

SAHRC spokesperson Wisani Baloyi said the complaint was receiving the necessary attention.

“The complaint will go through assessment in line with the commission’s handling of complaints procedures and the commission will revert back to the Democratic Alliance with the outcome of the assessment.”

Meanwhile, Postbank spokesperson Dr Bongani Diako said on Tuesday that, “according to our records, all outstanding SASSA grant payments to recipients that were impacted by the system incident of the 5th and 6th of September have been made”.

“The process of reversing funds into all affected beneficiaries’ accounts has been completed.

Many SASSA Gold card beneficiaries that had outstanding payments have been able to access their money through channels that includes ATM’s and the retailers,” said Diako.
