Slight drop in copper theft

The SA Chamber of Commerce and Industry says its copper theft barometer level decreased to R12.7 million in February from R12.9m in January.

Sacci says the February figure is 1.55% lower than a month ago but 18.1% higher than a year ago.

The national business chamber says while the month on month reduction is welcome, it is worrying that the year on year increase is still relatively high.

Sacci says its Copper Theft Volume Indicator increased to 192 metric tons in February from 184 metric tons in January 2015.

It says the drop in value in February despite the increase in volume is most likely linked to the decrease in the average monthly spot price of copper.
