A rhino poacher has been jailed for 30 years in the Skukuza Regional Court after pleading guilty to several charges.
The National Prosecuting Authority said 40-year-old Sydney Sibuyi was sentenced on Thursday for killing three rhinos in 2020.
Spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa, said he was apprehended in the park by rangers who were following up on information about three suspected poachers.
She said Sibuyi was in possession of five fresh rhino horns when arrested and a further search revealed the three carcasses.
Nyuswa said the National Prosecuting Authority welcomed the sentence, saying “rhino poaching endangers not only the population of targeted animals but also other animals in their ecosystem”.
