Six suspects wanted for a spate of murders, robberies and carjacking were shot and killed in Durban on Thursday.
Spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker says police intelligence led them to a house in Inanda, North West of Durban, where officers were greeted by a hail of bullets.
He says police returned fire, killing six of the suspects while one police officer was grazed with a bullet on his hand.
Naicker says two men and a 31-year-old woman were arrested at the scene while two rifles and a shotgun were found on the scene.
He says a vehicle that was hijacked in December was also confiscated.
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
