Six teenagers have been arrested following a high-speed car chase and shoot-out with the police on the Dumisani Makhaye Highway in Durban North.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Brigadier Jay Naicker says police officers spotted a vehicle on Friday evening which raised their suspicions, and as they attempted to pull it over, the occupants, aged between 15 and 16, sped off and a chase ensued.
He says when the vehicle reached the highway, the suspects opened fire at the police, and during the shoot-out, one of the suspects was wounded.
He was taken to hospital where he remains under police guard.
Naicker says five other youths were arrested and taken to the Greenwood Park Police Station.
Police seized two firearms.
