Gauteng police have arrested six suspects in connection with the murder of two police officers who were killed in separate incidents this week.
Spokesperson, Colonel Athlenda Mathe, said the arrests, by a multi-disciplinary task team, were welcomed by SAPS National Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola.
She said four suspects are in custody for the murder of Sergeant Tumelo Losaba at his home in Mabopane on Tuesday.
"Two of them have been charged with murder while another two were charged with possession of stolen property and possession of an unlicensed firearm," she said.
She said two suspects were also apprehended on Thursday morning in an intelligence-driven operation for the murder of 48-year-old Sergeant Vuyani Ngcobo.
Ngcobo was attached to the Sedibeng District's Essential Infrastructure Task Team and was following up on information about drug peddling at premises in the De Deur area on Sunday when he was shot and killed.
Mathe said two firearms were seized in each of the operations and they will be sent for ballistic testing to determine whether they were used in both crimes.
She said the four suspects will appear in court in Mabopane on Friday, while the two are due in the Vereeniging Magistrate's Court on Monday.
