The Special Investigative Unit (SIU) is probing allegations of corruption and maladministration at the National Student Financial Aid Scheme, (NSFAS).
The investigation will probe the management of the fund’s finances, the allocation of loans and bursaries, and any other funding payable to students.
SIU Spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago says the investigation will cover the period 1 April 2016 to 26 August 2022.
"The SIU will also investigate related unauthorised, irregular, or fruitless, and wasteful expenditures incurred by the NSFAS or the State, including the causes of maladministration."
"The SIU will also investigate any unlawful or improper conduct by employees or officials of the NSFAS or the service providers in question, their employees, or any other person or entity," he said.
