Twelve truck drivers who were part of the protest on the N3 on Friday are expected to appear in court.
The men will make an appearance in the Ladysmith Magistrates Court in KwaZulu Natal on Monday to face charges of the contravention of the Criminal Law Amendment Act, Infrastructure contravention, Intimidation, Economic Sabotage as well as contravention of the Road Traffic Act.
Traffic on the N3 came to a complete standstill when drivers started parking their trucks across the N3 freeway as early as 3 am on Friday.
Both carriageways were blocked for most of the day.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker says the suspects had taken keys to some of the trucks rendering them immovable for several hours.
He says police responded with the help of various specialised units from throughout the province to assist by getting the trucks off the road.
Brigadier Naicker says the 12 drivers defied police instructions to remove their trucks and were subsequently arrested.
Truck drivers are unhappy about foreigners taking their jobs and say their demands have fallen on deaf ears.
