A 35-year-old man who was convicted for his role in the murders of seven people on a Free State farm in 2022, has been handed life terms for each of the murders, plus an additional 35 years for other charges.
Free State police said on Thursday that 35-year-old Kamohelo Motankisi of Tlholong near Kestell was sentenced in the Free State High Court.
The second accused, Tseko Selepe, was sentenced to an effective 30 years behind bars in March.
Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring said the two faced a total of 12 charges.
Their victims were six women and one male: Paulinah Mothoduwa Moloi (37), Nontwasefani Loti Smith (54), Nokufa Portia Mofokeng (31), Lerato Julie Moloi (34), Nomasonto Christinah Zulu (57), Nomasonto Maduna (44), and Rhudie Binta (18).
Mophiring said some of the victims had sustained multiple stab and gunshot wounds, while two of the women sexually assaulted “during the commission of the senseless killings.”
He said Motankisi had also taken the stand to apologise to the victims’ families following sentencing.
